Larisa Shaterian met the Hammash family through an internship with the Middle East Children’s Alliance (www.mecaforpeace.org), and lived with the family for extended periods since 2005. In gratitude for all they have given her, Larisa set up the Hammash Scholarship Fund to help Majd with college expenses.
Inspired by the way others helped the older Hammash children and by examples of peer-to-peer scholarships, Larisa first used her own savings, then solicited family and friends, and finally founded the Hammash Scholarship Fund, with her mother, Jeanie Shaterian, as the Fund’s administrator.
The Hammash Scholarship Fund has already made an important practical difference in Majd Hammash's life and is committed to the long-term educational goals of the three Hammash children.
